Harvey Milk Day

Harvey Milk Day

Harvey Milk Day is celebrated every year on May 22. Harvey Milk was one of the first openly gay elected officials in the US, inspired the rainbow flag with his activism, and was assassinated along with the mayor of San Francisco in 1978. Harvey Milk Day was designated a day of special significance in California public schools in 2009, to recognize his important contributions as a civil rights hero.
